Purpose

The purpose of this article is to show how a user can disable automatic updates of definitions.

NOTE: This is not recommended procedure for those users who need/want to be offered the latest patches. This is only meant for those users who cannot download the latest updates from vendors until they have reviewed the patches' fixes and information.

Description

1. Go to Tools > Operations. On the Download tab, make sure under "Definition download source' the checkbox for 'Auto-update definitions (before scans)' is unchecked.

2. Delete any automatic download schedules listed in the 'Schedule automatic downloads' area in the Download tab.

3. Do NOT manually refresh your files by going to Help > Refresh files until you are ready for the latest XML data from Shavlik.

Additional Information

NOTE: It is recommended to restore these settings back to their defaults (Step 1: Recheck the box for 'Auto-update definitions (before scans)') as soon as you can to avoid out of date definitions and possible security implications.
