Symptoms
Deployment has triggered an automatic reboot process that is not desired, and you wish to halt the process.
Resolution
To halt the reboot process before it completes:
- Open the Windows Task Manager.
- Click the Processes tab.
- Locate the Safereboot.exe process which is running under the SYSTEM account and select it.
Note: There are two Safereboot.exe processes running, one under the SYSTEM account, and the other under the user account. Ensure that you select the process running under the SYSTEM account. If the user process is stopped before the SYSTEM process, the reboot will occur immediately. - Click End Process. The reboot process stops, but the countdown timer continues.
- Select the Safereboot.exe process which is running under the user account, then click End Process.
Note: If the countdown timer reaches 0 (zero) or Restart now is chosen in the dialog, you still have approximately 30 seconds where the shutdown process can still be stopped. Open a command prompt as an administrator and run the command:
shutdown -a
