Purpose

The purpose of this document is to provide additional information on environments using Shavlik Patch as well as an authenticated proxy server.

Symptoms

Using Shavlik Patch in conjunction with an authenticated proxy server you are unable to download patches.

This may sometimes lead to the Error: the downloaded update for 'xxx' does not match the expected digest among other possible errors.

Cause

If the proxy server in your environment is an authenticating proxy (prompts for credentials when accessing the internet or uses pass through authentication) Shavlik Patch will be unable to download the patch files and as a result will not function appropriately. Shavlik Patch currently is unable to inherit authentication settings for proxies and does not have a method to enter such settings into the program.

Resolution

Currently there is no fix for the issue. A workaround is to make exceptions in the proxy for any sites that Shavlik Patch uses. These can be found in the document URL Exception list for Shavlik Patch for Microsoft System Center. Work with your network team to ensure Shavlik Patch can bypass the proxy.

Shavlik is aware of this issue and working to have the functionality working in a future update of the Shavlik Patch plugin.
