Objective of a Software Asset scan
Shavlik Protect scans for the software components conatined on one or more machines. You can perform this scan on physical machines, online virtual machines, offlline virtual machines, and virtual machine templates.
This scan helps you answer the following important questions:
What software is on the machines in my network ?
Where are the Software resources located ? Etc...

One/Some of my software(s) does not appear in my Software Asset !?
In order to get the list of the Software installed we query the WMI (Windows Management Instrumentation) protocol on the target machine.
If the application supports WMI, it will be in the Software Asset inventory.
If not, Protect will not be able to discover it. You may want to contact the application vendor to verify if they support WMI.
My application does support WMI, but doesn't show up. What can I do ?
You may perform the following to troubleshoot:
- WMI may need to get flushed
Stop the WMI service
Delete the contents of <%WINDIR%>\System32\wbem\Repository
Reboot the system
- Run a WMI diagnostic tool from Microsoft called WMIDiag. This tool can validate the state of WMI on Target Machines.
Run it on the Target Machine that is having a problem performing an Asset Scan. It will generate a log file and tell you the health of WMI on the Target Machine. The log file even lists what needs to be corrected.
Following the above steps the issue is still present
